How to Read a Scientific Poster

A visual format worth reading with the right questions.

Editorial illustration: an empty hall with fictional scientific posters.

What Is Published

The IAEA’s 2023 Symposium Poster Guidelines emphasized focusing on key information and encouraged direct discussions between authors and attendees.

A Thorough Reading

We identify the research question, methodology, results, and limitations. We verify whether the material has a publicly available version and whether an associated article exists. A photograph of a poster may be insufficient to verify figures.

How We Report

We explicitly state the poster format and the source consulted. We do not reclassify it as a "confirmed study," nor do we treat presentation at a conference as validation of a product.

SOURCES AND CONTEXT
